This is going to be fun to watch. Apple says "sorry, we miscalculated the bars. The phone shows more bars than there actually is" and that they will fix the software problem with an update soon. I have no idea how they will solve the "conductive materials shorting the antenna and rendering it useless" problem with a software update.
Oh wait, I think I know. Put a exception case in the code and say "if no bars or if antenna is shorted show one small bar and blame AT&T for poor or no reception". There we go. I bet Apple is negotiating the money that they will pay AT&T for being the scape goat. Afterall, all they have to do is put up with it for another year or so, until the next version of iPhone is released.
Or maybe, they will start selling "iPhone reception enhancer" covers. That'll work too. A thin plastic layer is all that's needed to insulate the gap that shorts the antenna. Atta boy, that is one smart marketing move.
- Take your reception enhancer covers. Here, here. Reception enhancers are here
- These look like condoms
- They are condoms
- Nice. Can I get a strawberry flavored one please?
